Managers almost never criticise their own players until they have been sold. It is why I was impressed when David Moyes said that Duncan Ferguson had let the team down after his sending-off against Wigan Athletic. It might have been indefensible, but some managers would have said that they had not seen the incident or that it was a gentle caress rather than a right hook to the stomach. I understand that managers have to be seen to be backing their players but sometimes honesty is quite refreshing.

Hello one and all and merry Christmas to all here! My long distance friends will know I do not bother sending Christmas cards but a Christmas email with humorous overtones. But due to now having to work for a living rather than just turn up I am afraid I have not done anything this year. My local friends will know in the past that I dish out the old Xmas cards down the pub with two days to spare but this year I will be down under so that's is out of the equation. So I thought well I won't bother with any of it I am off to the sun who needs cards on a beach! But unfortunately maternal pressure and guilt ( not only my own- Chris , Joe and George your mothers played their part - they love a card mums) realised I must do something. But buying cards for the sake of it never sits well with me and in a road to Damascus style conversion (Chris's mum) I have become the good Samaritan and via Oxfam and on your behalf I have purchased a thunderbox for the third world ! Some poor farmer after a hard days slog can now sit down read the paper in peace. Seriously though its a good cause for the price of a box of cards you can buy school dinners for 100 kids!

Great song I shall have to put it on my ipod. I was just checking back in my archives for disgrace and found my first ever post was about blogging or getting an ipod to be trendy. I have due to an upcoming 24hr flight purchased a ipod ( video one 5 star all the way these days) does this mean the end of blogging for reet? Judging by my lack of posts it looks like I stopped back in June July time! But I shall carry on! I shall be down under this Christmas so will feel the need to vent my spleen at some stage. South Mimms was originally know for being the site of the worlds first underground drainage system. The system extended over 15 miles until its collapse in 1347 which resulted in the lost of north mimms, just to the east. Most villages would have disappeared in to obscurity. However since the induction of the parish of south mimms into the metropolitan police region in 1840. A rich and vibrant community has grown up around an area know locally then internationally as 'the services'. Originally home for highwaymen and coachmen in a strange form of truce away from the open road, south mimms soon grew in to a bustling region of London. Where anything was available from women of questionable virtue to travel rugs of questionable warmth. One of the great mysteries is when shortbread became a local delicacy, this however has been lost in the mists of time. In the modern age as highwaymen were made obsolete by the congestion charge and coachmen developed larger bladders the services were in a lull. The invention of prepacked sandwiches, soon saw south mimms enter its golden age. Families on route to the north , truckers ( looking for a place to forget buried hitch hikers) and sales reps reveled in an ecstasy of coming together for a ginsters. Happy Birthday Alan. I haven't posted for ages, writers block I fear. Since I last properly posted I seem to be having the opposite and early mid life crisis. Since reaching a certain age last year I have constantly protested to friends and family alike ' its not to bad just the same as before'. But I realise I have been kidding myself , which I find worryingly easy to do. shit I have dried up already. back again after spending 9 years in a cliched (but true) dead end job until may 2004 I have changed company three times and roles 4 times and moved house. Its like being involved in a pleasant car crash you can see what is coming but you cannot avoid it. Most strange. Anyway that's what's happened to me and that's why I have been a bit quiet. On the happy birthday note I have also failed to mention significant events since I have been 'running deep' so a quick list. Brown boy and blanco got married. Log has grown a little twig, well done I know your part was the hardest. Disgrace (to our mother) has grown his hair and gone aussie ( he did get some brownie points by jumping and cheering on a Melbourne commuter train at 6 in the morning when Hughes scored the 5th penalty).

the boys have soared the heights of the league and now are taking a short breather before challenging again ( we hope). A quick word on Bryan Hughes he keeps getting described as a journeyman player( by footy hacks) which in footballing terms I always assumed meant squad player loads of clubs . Journeyman actually means one step up from apprentice either way its not a nice term. He is never going to be a cult hero but let him enjoy his moment in the sun. I still hate hacks and pundits. Mrs Murphy also revealed she is a bit of a jinx the other day ( in her role as a columnist, not hack columnist) and proved it by the Bolton game. She is however a minx so a solution is required. I feel I have the answer turn up at the start of the game wander round looking a bit special support Danny, give me a stiff neck ( this is a family blog) then jump on a bike cab over to the Kebab Ye Den balls up their home games then fly back pronto for the Powelly pitchside panto performance! Perfect.

History of Charlton Supporters Clubs

There seems to be some confusion with all the independent supporters clubs being formed. Which seems the ideal time to quickly review the history of Charlton supporters clubs. It all started with the launch of the popular Charlton supporters front (pcsf) not to be confused with the popular front of Charlton supporters (pfcs) or the Charlton front for popular supporters (cfps). The main aim of the pcsf was to introduce more initials into the wider world as encouraged by the CIITWW. This was jointly supported by the Charlton athletic initial promotion scheme (cafcips) which encouraged the use of cafc where ever possible. As they were only a steering body (cafcips(sb))and had no active powers they agreed to the formation of the pcsf. This caused a split within the cafcips(sb) because of the lack of cafc within pcsf. This lead to the formation of a splinter provisional group pcafcips(sb) which formed the pfcs and the cfps. realising their mistake they dissolved the pcafcips (sb)(ret) and reformed the ncafcips (sb). The main body of the cafcips realised the ncafcips (sb) was bringing shame to their name nay initials. This lead to the entire group being dissolved and the formation of the Everything must start with Charlton athletic football clubs initial group (emswcafcig) this organisation virtually imploded as soon as the stationary was printed. The whole scheme was abandoned when it was discovered to be a plot by a local badge and sticker maker who was immediately suspended by his local committee (lbsmo (Charlton and Woolwich branch)). This then lead to the re-emergence of the pcsf not to be confused with the pfcs or the .......................

I haven't posted for ages through sheer laziness to be honest! But looking back at my recent posts I realised that the last effort I put in was after the spurs game which was and still is a joyous occasion. But I feel in my world of the superstitious idiot that I went over the top and the gods of sods law ( creator of traffic jams, brewers droop and football results ) shat on me from a great height in revenge. Am I saying that the malicious god of sods is a spurs fan? Well with cab drivers and builders vans on his side its not a huge leap of faith. But come on 9 games three points that's just fucking evil. So with one eye on next season I am not going to say anything about Sunday. I will be looking forward to the rumours starting and occasionally ranting about footy hacks. (wooliesnuts in the sport today could start me going but no. But I am sure he will pipe up with some big club bias crap soon). So it starts again! Well in 13 weeks but after this fire and forget season I think onwards and upwards is the best bet.

so what have I learnt this season? The fellas behind me are alright you just need to talk to them , a lesson perhaps for us all. We in the west stand are truly rubbish when it comes to singing and standing up but the passion is still there we are just embarrassed, weird but true. Never run your own shop it ruins Saturday games ( fair play to blanco for renewing and shopkeeping) traveling the world and living on the Mekong river or in Prague is no excuse for not renewing your ticket ( well done young Elton and woodley ) new signings don't always work straight away but patience is I believe still a virtue. You don't need to blog just for the sake of it. Just when you have something to say ( mainly because the other boys type faster than me and beat me to the punch gits!) mid table with a barclay card is still much better than top with a bottle of coke. The rest of football are not concerned by glaziers take over the northern bucs they are all laughing at the prospect they could go the same way Leeds did! I heard there was already changes at the weekend. Reports from St mary's said Man United States were playing with what seemed to be a large horse mascot up front. It has been an educational season some old truths have been confirmed wenger apparently still has a nice little smile and the social in Liverpool still seem to have no idea where anyone is. Some new knowledge has been imparted too, a football blog is not the best place to find a life partner ( Jo from the FA never called!) the Falklands were saved by the royal marines and Spain 82, and finally planning to type a one line post seems the best way to type off on one!

Only six games to go! How did that happen? So stop moaning we have got a summer to get through with out any football. So enjoy it will it lasts even if your enjoyment means moaning about football. Its not that I use a world war 2 shelter as a home office I just have this strange conspiracy that the government always lays on a war when there is no international football on. 2nd gulf war started 2003 (Christ that's starting to drag) the first one was in 1991 see no footy . 1939 there would not have been a world cup on. First world war is a bit tricky because there should have been a world cup but then again the war didn't really kick off till august anyway. Rumours suggest that the marines at Port Stanley could of held off the invasion force for months but didn't fancy missing Spain 82. As it was the war was over by June. So get your tin hats on as they have got the whole summer in which to bomb things to keep the news channels busy. Especially if we have got a new PM ,not saying anything election fever has no place in my house or Anderson. But they do love to have a bit of a bomb if they are new. ...because they are so easily disappointed. They love wallowing in their own misery but not as much as I love watching them. But then again I love football, I love beating spurs , I love the world in general today. After an absolutely appalling day at work that was the best tonic I could have possibly had looked really good and the pundits view that they could have been 2 or 3 up at half time just reinforces my lack of respect for football hacks. Spurs strikers were about as successful as jimmy greeves trying to pass a pub in the 80's. keane moans so much I cannot believe he hasn't worked his way up from the spurs youth team. Our back four were solid and there was some smashing tackles . One of my many highlights was the reaction of the crowd after talal , Murphy and young all put in fair but crunching tackles one after the other it was like we had scored again. Danny and Jerome scored two top draw goals and I thought the whole team played well. But I feel I must single out Paul konchesky for an energetic and full blooded performance. He was everywhere which in combination with Murphy and Holland allowed us to run the midfield. How spurs finished with eleven men I will never know, but then again that would mean one less person to gloat at! Joy joy joy joy joy one more for luck joy.

p.s I wasn't going to honour him with a mention but .....Judas what's the score? Since you left us for your so called bigger club you still haven't finished above us in the league. Joy

The Leicester game certainly didn't inspire me to blog. If it didn't inspire the players to play what hope did I have? But fair play they have come back and got a good point up at boro. Oh and curses Judas boy still has not finished above us in the league since he left us for a 'bigger club' - tip jermain when you say you are going to going a bigger club try and join a bigger club not some fading 80's then 60's relics. I have gone off on some random spout again and cannot remember what I typed the first time. And I wondered why I stopped blogging regularly no no reet type away expose your fragile mind on the unsuspecting world. Right lets put this down to a mild episode and round it off. Just seen off my brother at heathrow as he jets off to SE Asia and oz for around about two years. An emotional send off with our folks and his traveling companions family too. But one must look to to the positive 1- I will be blogging more to keep the expat updated on all things cafc ( through reet tinted glasses obviously) 2 I have just inherited a ps2 and a double bed for my flat 3 proof that blood is thicker than water and after years of invites from mates who have previously made the move to down under I know this time I will make it myself. I may get away with it in the Bernabeu ( yes that is me you can hear on Spanish football on a Sunday - private jet, taught zidane everything he knows long story don't like to talk about it) but I imagine a swift exit would follow at the valley. I go away for a few weeks and I the whole place goes to the dogs. The boro result didn't help my already downward spiral so I just walked away from it all for a short while to rediscover the spark or the flame whatever to be arsed to write something. The boys have done a job the spurs result was fantastic I had every talisman superstition or pre match routine in full flow but our luck has changed. We have got that unexpected away win which normally kick starts our season its just come a lot later this year than normal. The Norwich result has help us push on further again we are back in the top ten again. But the understandable disappointment of the previous games is still there lurking in the background ready to return at a seconds notice. We have in the way started to experience one of the few down sides of being a premiership club the spotlight, the tabloid feeding frenzy. If they feel there are legs in a story they will just keep bringing it up again and again. Previously the only story was curbs to spurs, Liverpool next England manager whatever, there had been no interest in the relationship between the fans and the club. You see no one wants to read good news about other clubs just the same bad news rehashed again and again. Football hacks play to the crowd they write what the majority wants to read and I tell you we aint them. So any hint of trouble they think ahhh I don't have to run that Charlton well run club story again ! I'll just cut and paste that last tottenham boo boys story. This is where we come to the crux we are being compared to tottenham not their so called' big club' status or their revolving managers door policy but their bloody fans! Possibly the worst aspect of that dinosaur of 20th century football. So please stop moaning, so next time is see a boo boys headline I can in confidence skip over it knowing that it is the spurs match report.

p.s. yellow balls are key to our success - 2004 6 from 6 since we started using them. 1999 - last time cafc played with jaundice balls we won the 1st division 13 wins on the trot.

I never normally celebrate birthdays but this one I am canning the arse out of for everything I can get . I am off again this weekend for another do almost a fortnight after the event! I just blame my age when hungover and get away scot free. Why did I never do this before? With Ramadan starting soon I can blend that in to Christmas then on to Passover I could be off till next year on religious grounds, couple of days away from the grindstone and my loafing nature returns to the fore. Get up at 10 bit of praying (just in case I am being watched) then off down the boozer. Charlton are on the telly all the time (sky follow the glamour clubs) happy days. Talking of telly has anyone else got an itv hangover? Everyone knows MOTD is the best highlights show but like our forefathers in the 70's we had to suffer itv's attempts at football coverage. I never used to watch..... I cannot remember what it was called now ' on the premierball' or something so my TV body clock is out of synch so I keep missing MOTD. I have just read that back when I said TV body clock I meant television not tranny .No my tranny clock is bang on, up to the moment, finger on the pulse, on the ball (ah) when I whack on the slap I look like j-lo's sister (the one with a beer gut and stubble).

Digressing in several senses of the word there what was I typing for? Oh yes reasons to be cheerful as always I am late with my match report. So I am not going to bother with the blow to blow as this is available all over the shop. I am just going to stick in my two bob opinions. First of all it was an enjoyable game and I don't think I would have felt ashamed in nicking all three points. The team seemed to hold its shape well and was back to the well organized Charlton we all know. Dennis is starting to come to the fore a bit now I know there has been some muttering about him even in this game but he needs time to adapt to a completely different style of play. He still needs to work on his defensive qualities but he was tracking back and closing down which he has not done before. But with a player of his obvious quality I feel the team needs to adapt with him, try and release him more in to space. We always seemed to do it with Claus (remember him) and he wasn't the fastest but according to the papers Rom is. The fabled gelling together seems to be slowly setting and I am getting optimistic again. Danny and Matt worked well in the mid field hopefully we will see more of the same. Kevs luck seems to be changing for him and the skill before hand deserved a goal. A quick word on Kev he tries hard and gets so much stick give the boy a break don't jump on players backs all the time I actually heard someone say 'well he should of buried that' what when he blazed wide? Or hit the post ? No when he f***iing scored! I know I see the game through rose tinted spectacles but for christsake cheer up you miserable f***s Sorry but that winds me up when people always see the bad in everything. The joy of leaping around after a Charlton goal is one of the only true pleasures we have (alright I have) in this world. We don't get that many don't spoil them for me. Clap quietly , stay sitting down , f*** off to tottenham do anything just don't moan. Went off a bit again then quick round up HH headbutt nice, good points on yahoo fantasy. franny on the bench? Was there football on at the weekend? I thought I was an international weekend (curling, ten pin bowling or knitting I don't care as long as there was no football on). Well my physic powers have proved themselves to be, as many of you may have suspected, bollocks. The bookies have their money back and equilibrium has returned. Yet again phone ins have demanded curbs head after another 4-0 away defeat, what are you talking about? If anyone is to blame its me for breaking my own rule of never betting on my own side. Never again. Well I was awol again at the weekend working on my new opus Shopgirls of the Southcoast not only is enjoyable research but the staff discounts come in handy. This crucial fact finding mission did however mean I had to listen to the Addicks brave defence on BBC London and by the sounds of it most of the reports are accurate we held them for a while but then crumbled under the weight of the gunners attack. We have been guilty this season of some very sloppy passing this is an obvious side effect of trying to rebuild the centre of the team in the pressure cooker of the premiership. We get away with it at home but have been exposed away. Shit happens move on, we will hit our Christmas purple patch soon (hopefully) and our thoughts will turn towards Europe again (even more hopefully).

News from the continent suggests that Paulo is pushing for spotty to sign for lazio, makes sense they seemed to have built a friendship. which some suggested made spotty get itchy feet (according to spottys carpet fitter though he had almost signed for the blues in the summer of 2003). It was the format of this rumour that made me pick it out from all the rest. It was on a Tottenham (big in the 60's) website who proclaim 'euro giant want spurs and cafc target' first I didn't know spurs were interested (he is a spurs fan though) second euro giants? No money, no trophies for years and a mid table team aha I can see how a spurs fan could mistake lazio for a current euro giant perhaps they are hoping they return the favour on the lazio website to guild the Tottenham Lilly some more. I feel better now its always nice after a poor weekend to slag of spurs on a Monday.

If rumors are to be believed Curbs and Scott have buried their differences. Which could lead to a return of the prodigal son to the valley. As much as we hate to admit it we have been missing Scott's ability in mid field. It was not his runs or even the goals we have been lacking but his interceptions. Even though we are having our best start to a season I have noticed the ease in which teams have been passing through our mid field. Our recent run of solid results comes from playing one or even two defenders in mid field which does not lend itself to exciting play and the back four are under constant pressure. So if curbs can forgive can we? If we get him for half of what we sold him for it will be like we got Franny and Danny for free that cannot be bad. So all the boo boys feel free when spotty is playing for Chelsea (you will probably have to go to a reserve game to do it) but if he pulls on the red shirt again that will be a different matter.

p.s. hreidarsson 76 minutes one nil. I am not sure on the score so just go for the win its 10-1 at ladbrokes.

Second half good goal from talal he is no replacement for Scotty as the Evening Standard suggests today but he can definitely head a ball as chevio found out pre season. Disagreeing with the papers again the Sun gave Stuart a five, I personally thought he was the difference from the Southampton game giving us that spark and bite again. He breaks up some of the attacks and creates some counters. Hopefully the rest of the mid field will follow soon and I glad to see the lack of booing of players that never helps anyone. The back four are starting to look solid again and stepped in to the breach when deano made an uncharacteristic mistake. Well I am going off to a darkened flotation tank to get my lottery numbers but remember we will end the Gunners run and lets sell out the valley for the Norwood Palace game and show them what being a premiership team is all about. I must admit I have been awol for , going by my last post, five days it doesn't seem that long but you gain you lose. A surprisingly heavy weekend after a busy week at work has slowed my posting speed considerably. But the Birmingham result was acceptable after my own and the clubs previous outings steadying the good ship Charlton and not to much excitement for me. I cannot believe so called fans have been calling Radio London saying Curbs should go are you mental? Charlton's recent history makes us a special club in the fact that we stared oblivion in the face and survived we need a manager that understands this. Curbs is the man because he lived through it with us and all the boo boys and radio phone in ranters should go back to spurs where they belong. I have mentioned this before where expectation of success seems to be taking over from the survival instinct which isn't to say we should not have ambition but we must always remember where we came from. As the song goes 'and if you know you history it enough to make your heart go....' So remember to be a Charlton fan is to watch football with hope and joy in your heart, hope that may win something and joy that we can still watch Charlton in the best league in the world.

It would be nice however if the good ship addick did sail some uncharted territory this season with a little cruise round the country on a bit of a cup run. I know I do try to inject a bit of humour in to my posts but don't laugh I am being serious. We've got to have one soon haven't we? The Bored Identity

Hello is anybody there? I have just woken up in a deserted valley with no memory of how I got here ( no I am not Jason Bourne, though I do know the chi-dong death touch and I don't know why) They always say its important to retrace your steps when dealing with memory loss. I remember Kelly Holmes parading her medals then someone blew a whistle ah Charlton Southampton that explains it I fell in to a restful sleep. I am overly optimistic when it comes to Charlton but even I had to admit Mondays game was a shocker. We still got a point admittedly against an equally poor saints but a points a point. After the away reverses it is nice to stop the rot and steady the ship and to use another cliche sometimes you have to grind out results like that. I feel as fans we need to be a bit more patient booing off the team left a sour taste in my mouth it was only the third home game we need to put things in perspective. Remember booing is copyrighted by spurs fans I don't want to start paying them royalties.

Deanos good form is a welcome ray of light and the continued effort shown by Jason I believe is recognized by the crowd. Murphy had a absolute nightmare, cannot say more than that I am moving swiftly on. The front two had a quiet game, Lisbie is definitely trying harder these days which I believe is an offshoot of training with franny. A few goals to go with it would be nice. More than a few times I heard mentioned that we were waiting for the fabled 'click' and hopefully we will after a good uninterrupted spell of games. Chris Perrys return shows that the posters worked and he offered us much needed stability at the back. The back four were under constant pressure through out the game as the mid field as a unit seemed to go missing for spells. We are not suited to long ball at the best of times ( do the practice heading with the forwards?) but with our two shortest players upfront was madness. Jason Euell in the hole behind the front is my answer balls to feet, running on to knock downs switching with Murphy and Rom it's going to be special, once we find the fabled click. But time is needed, this year has probably seen more first team changes than in a long time. Because the transfers happen way before the window closed that we imagine the players have been with the club a lot longer than we think. Not only do they need to bed in but Curbs needs to find a formation and team that he is happy with which he tends to do to my untrained eye during the season rather than before.

See I was that bored Monday I started talking about formations lets hope for win next time.

Magician Powell out on loan!

Its a shame but Chrissy does need to get games but on our recent away performances I though he was in with a shout. I like Powell he played with a smile on his face which is sadly lacking in modern football. If a player is seen grinning on the pitch its normally because he is in the process of winding up the opposition fans or players. Chris however does it because he is loving every minute of it. He seemed to have a connection with the fans (he always listened to me from the crowd) he even helped paint blancos front room after a welling game once (that's our story and we are sticking to it). After my own poor performance after the Austria game I am subbing myself, put me on the bench where I belong. Perhaps I had been up all night playing tomb raider or stories in the press effected me I don't know what happened. I thought I had it covered but as I bent down to scoop it up nuts! Through my legs and the granny shagging story was in the back of the net. I am ashamed of myself but that's all you are going to get here because I am not talking to the press. The general consensus of opinion is that it was a childish act by the players to refuse to talk to the press. Watching sky sports news this morning however it seemed to me it was not only the players throwing their toys out of the pram but the footy hacks as well. I have a personal dislike for footy hacks who stare down from their moral high ground at the players who are in no way angels at all, but people in glass houses. They are not even football fans because they couldn't write rationally about if they were not that they do anyway very often. I suspect that 90% of hacks are spurs or manyoo fans, lets look at the facts one- the general misconception in the press that tottenham are still a big club they are not they are a mid table side with grossly self inflated delusions of grandeur. Two- hacks are paid to fly round the world and watch footy and they still moan and still get the match reports wrong ie see what they want to see, spurs and manyoo fans I rest my case. How many times on a Monday or a Sunday have you read a Charlton report and gone 'what the hell are they talking about!' and then to you loved ones or workmates annoyance spend the next hour talking through the match blow by blow of how it actually happen (you know you love it) .

This is why I believe that blogging is going to help change the face of football not dramatically I am not mental but enough that people will notice. Players already have their own webpages but now the facility is here that every fan can to. So some hack drunk in a hotel bar 15 minutes before the game finishes can no longer claim to be the voice of the fans like one did this morning on sky sports news and as you can tell got my goat up.

But now all energies can be focus back on to the beloved Addicks no delusions of grandeur no primadonnas having hissy fits in front of the nations press. Just Charlton steaming towards the title and a 100 % home record ( I can have delusions I am allowed ) Monday night games though throws me off kilter all week my body clock is footy sensitive similar to photo sensitive except rather than the morning light waking me the evening footy knocks out . You 've been to the valley tomorrow must be Sunday have a lie in, so it will be four alarms for me on Tuesday. ps a quick word on Defoe , you can clearly see the skills he learnt at Charlton coming to the fore it is rumored that spin was mastered in the valley car park as he turned tail and legged it to the Spanners. Since he left to join a bigger club young Judas has yet to finish above us in the league keep it up Defoe you are doing a sterling job!

A strange man was seen outside of a Bromley home from the elderly at approximately 23.00 on Monday.
